Lessons learned from flag football
I was asked if I was even going to get any good shots without direct sunlight during this shoot - and my answer is always a strong YES. Some of my best work recently has been in cloudy conditions since the cloud cover acts as a filter for the harsh sunlight. My only regret with this shoot is needing to stop so I can get my team together for warmups for my own game.
For this, used my trusty 70-300mm f4.5-6.3 f-mount lens with an FTZ II converter so I can use it on my new ZF body. This has been the lens that I've enjoyed shooting on the most over the past year, but I do think it's time for a new superzoom lens as I'm usually at the top of the available focal length for nearly the whole time. For football, I really enjoy the tighter closeups, and when I'm on the sidelines it's really the only option I have here.
For the Women's Elite Rugby shots with Tempest at their two home games, I used the Nikon 180-600mm lens which I LOVED. I really like that I can post up at the try zone and shoot away rather than hustling up and down the sidelines - and especially since we had some rain during those games, I was able to post up in the stands to stay dry(er) and still get some viral shots. I've been thinking about getting this lens for use here, and perhaps it would also be great for volleyball when that starts back up to post up in the Belmont steps instead of worrying about stray spikes courtside.
Also getting more comfortable with Lightroom! I liked how this set came out, and the control I have over every single little component is wonderful. I think I'm finally ready to commit and begin shooting in RAW full time which will hopefully make even better final products.
